KINGSTON, Jamaica - The trial of the three police officers charged with the murder of two men abducted from the Boulevard Shopping Centre in 2004 started in the Home Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Assistant Superintendent Victor Barrett and Corporals Paul Edwards and Louis Lynch are to be tried for the murder of Kemar Walter, 20, and Oliver Duncan, 28.

Both men were abducted from the Boulevard Super Centre on Washington Boulevard, St Andrew on December 23, 2004. Their bodies have not been found.

The prosecution told jurors during opening address that evidence will be led that there was a common plot among the all three police officers to kill the men and that Barrett, who headed the police's Gang Intelligence Unit, covered up the crime.

The cops were charged in 2009.

Kemar Walters' mother wept while giving evidence as she told the court about not hearing from her son after the fateful December date.

The cops are being represented by Queen's Counsel K Churchill Neita, Oswest Senior Smith, Valerie Neita-Robertson and Deborah Martin.
