Tropical storm projected to hit Caribbean

Thursday, August 02, 2012 | 1:17 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Tropical storm has been projected to hit the Caribbean tomorrow.

The potential threat will enter the Eastern Caribbean region as a tropical depression, but may strengthen between Friday evening and Saturday, according to Duty Forecaster for the Jamaica Meteorological Service, Ronald Moodie.

"Somewhere between Friday and Saturday it will be updated to a storm, but it is not close to us (Jamaica), the earliest possible time that we will see any effects has been projected to be by Monday," he said.

Storm watches have been issued for the islands of Barbados, Dominica, Martinique and St Lucia.

According to Moodie it is possible the storm could change course and not affect Jamaica at all.

"Anything is possible, we will just have to wait," he said.
