TWO police officers were yesterday shot and injured in a reported case of friendly fire in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

A civilian was also injured in the incident that occurred about 4:00 pm on the Old Harbour Bay main road.

Steve Brown, the deputy superintendent in charge of the police's information arm -- the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) -- said he could not confirm the circumstances under which the policemen and the civilian were injured.

The CCN, in a release last night, said: "We can confirm that two police officers and a civilian were shot and injured in an incident in Old Harbour, St Catherine, this afternoon [yesterday]. They are currently being treated at hospital for their injuries. The matter is now being investigated."

Old Harbour residents told the Jamaica Observer that one of the injured policemen was in a private motor car with a civilian, while the other was in a marked service vehicle.
