Two men acquitted of cops' murder
THE two men charged with the Labour Day murder of two policemen six years ago were yesterday acquitted in the Home Circuit Court.
Claytoday Dunkley and Garfield Litchmore were freed by a panel of 12 jurors who deliberated for four hours before returning the unanimous verdict.
Both men have been on trial since February 3 for the May 23, 2008 shooting death of constables Cornel Grant, 34, who was assigned to the Denham Town Police Station, and Delano Lawrence from the Admiral Town Police Station.
The cops were ambushed as they walked with two colleagues in a tight passage at the side of a house on Third Street in the often-volatile community of Trench Town.
Dunkley was represented by attorneys Valerie Neita-Robertson, Peter Champagnie, Andrew Wildes and Shanon Clarke, while Anthony Williams appeared for Litchmore.
Maxine Jackson and Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque appeared for the Crown.
