BRYANS BAY, Portland — Two students of the St Andrew College drowned in Portland yesterday.
The marine police, assisted by local divers have called off a search for the body of one of the teenagers at the Shan Shay Beach in Bryans Bay, Portland late yesterday afternoon. On eof the bodies have been found.
The search was called off shortly after 5 pm due to poor visibility, strong winds, and rough seas after divers earlier recovered one body.
The police report that a group of students from the school arrived by bus at the white sand beach along with their teacher. Three of the students, who went swimming got into difficulty, shortly after 1 pm.
The driver of the bus realised that the students were in difficulty and attempted to rescue them, however he too got into difficulty and had to be rescued by a local spear fisherman. One of the students was also rescued by the man and his colleagues, but the other two disappeared.
A search ensued for the two, and shortly after one of the bodies was recovered by the divers with assistance from the marine police.
The names of the two students have not yet been released by the police.
