UPDATE: SSP Tony Hewitt confirmed dead

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Retired senior superintendent of police Anthony ‘Tony’ Hewitt has succumbed to gunshot injuries he received in a shooting incident Sunday.

Hewitt was shot and injured at Donmair Avenue, Kingston 19 and was rushed to hospital.

His death was confirmed by the police high command Sunday night.

Commenting on the incident Sunday, Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington condemned the attack, and urged investigators to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
