KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of Technology (UTech) said today that students involved in the chase of two colleagues accused of being homosexuals will be punished.

According to a statement from the university, an investigation into the incident where two students alleged found in a “compromising position” in a bathroom were chased, is being conducted.

Students who are found to have been a part of the abuse will be dealt with according to the school’s policy, the UTech statement said.

At the same time the university said that it continued to counsel the two male students, one of which was beaten by security guards, and work to help them complete their studies.

One student in his effort to elude the chasing mob ran into the UTech guardhouse but was collared and beaten by the guards.

Since the incident last Thursday, November 2, Marksman, the contracted security company dismissed the security officers involved.

The guards have also been arrested by the police and are expected to be in court this week.

Meanwhile UTech said it intends to develop a special training programme to ensure that security guards properly ensure the safety of those they protect.

UTech administration said it is also working with students and staff to discuss issues related to tolerance, sexuality and behaviour management.
