NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD accounts major and track scholar at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Darrion Mitchell is the grand prize winner of $5 million in the Digicel Jus Buss summer promotion, which was announced on Friday, September 3 at the company's head office in New Kingston.
The promotion, which ran from July 2 through August 26, gave Digicel customers a chance to 'Jus Buss' with fantastic prizes of cash, phones and Digicel call credit.
"I received the call from Digicel while I was on my way to prepare for the new school year; I was so excited, I couldn't believe it. It was actually my mother's birthday, so I called her and told her I was going to give her $5 million for her birthday," said Mitchell. Mitchell plans to invest some of his winnings, purchase his first car and help his parents with their home improvement plans.
In the meantime, Georgina Benson, another student of UWI is also celebrating her newly minted millionaire status after winning one of the five $1-million cash consolation prizes. Georgina said she will use some of the money to pay her entire university tuition and Hall fees. "Now I don't have to worry about money and school at all, mi really jus buss," expressed the elated 24- year-old.
Other lucky winners of $1 million each included principal of the Annunciation Basic School in Clarendon Doreen Brown; Mark Bartley from Allman Town and Diego from Duhaney Park in Kingston.
"My children always tease me that one day I would win something from Digicel because I frequently make calls," explained Brown. "I'm so happy. This money will truly go a far way in helping with my children's tuition with one being in university and the other doing CSEC."
According to Digicel's head of marketing, Donovan White, the competition has changed the lives of hundreds of customers "as they all had a chance to share over $16 million in cash and prizes".
"Over the past nine years, our customers have developed a high level of confidence in knowing that Digicel will always come with something new to continue to give them bigger and better value and the Digicel Jus Buss promotion did just that," he said.
