Kingston, Jamaica — A meeting called by the Labour Ministry to resolve industrial action at the Victoria Mutual Building Society was called off Friday afternoon after union representatives failed to show.

Workers at the financial institution staged the industrial action Friday morning forcing the closure of several branches across the island.

According to the VMBS, the Ministry of Labour called a meeting for 2:00pm Friday, which its officers attended.

However, representatives of the National Workers Union (NWU) and Union of Clerical, Administrative, and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) were absent, advising that they were unavailable.

Attempts are now being made by the Ministry to arrange another meeting, the VMBS said.

The industrial action surrounds claims for additional incentive payments.
