Update: St James murders linked to lottery scam
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The four murders in St James last night have been linked to the illicit lottery scam in the western section of the island.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Devon Watkis, who is charge of the St James Division, said that based on preliminary information, the four murders were gang related.
“There are clear indications that the murders last night were done by gang members involved in the lotto scam. Our investigators were on the ground early collecting statements and trying to put the pieces together,” he said.
A pregnant woman and her spouse were shot and killed in one of the two double murders.
Chantal Davis, who was nine months pregnant, and her spouse, Easton Chambers, were shot dead by men who fired upon a jerk centre located at Maroon Town in the parish.
The incident happened about 9:30 pm.
Not far away, 74-year-old Alvin Reid and 36-year-old Ashmarie Plummer were shot and killed by two men at a shop where they had gathered with several people.
This incident occurred just two hours before the Maroon Town murders.
