BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth — Mayor of Black River Everton Fisher has condemned the action of vandals who cut up Jamaica 50 decorations in Black River over the weekend.

Pieces of the fabric — in flag colours — used in the decoration of utility poles in the town were cut.

“At this time when we are celebrating Jamaica’s accomplishments as a nation I am very disappointed and disturbed that individuals would use their time to destroy one of our national symbols. This is a time of national unity and I use this medium to condemn this action,” Fisher said.

“St Elizabeth as a parish has much to be proud of and we are united in the vision to make our parish the place to work, live and raise families,” he added.

Fisher said that the matter would be reported to the police so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice.
