KINGSTON, Jamaica - The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has congratulated the West Indies men’s and women’s teams for having reached the semi-finals of their respective ICC T20 World Cup competitions being played in Sri Lanka.

“We recognise that there is still work to be done by both teams,” said WIPA president Wavell Hinds, “but having said that, we want to let the both the men and the women know that we respect their efforts thus far.”

The men are seeking to bring home a major trophy following a long lean spell, as the last time they won an ICC tournament was in 2004 when they captured the Champions Trophy in England. For the women it would be the first time that they would be winning a global title.

Both the women and the men will take on fierce rivals Australia at the semi-final stage on Friday, with women playing at 5:00 am, ECT and the men at 9:30 am, ECT.

“We wish them the best of luck in the upcoming semi-finals, and want to remind them that if they realise their full potential, they are in with an excellent chance of capturing both titles,” said Hinds who was a member of the 2004 champion team.
