Wall of honour for slain cops

Nelson proposes medal of gallantry for cops killed in the line of duty

Jamaica Observer

Thursday, September 02, 2010

MINISTER of National Security Dwight Nelson, has announced plans to erect a Wall of Honour for all the police men and women who have been killed in the line of duty.

Nelson made the announcement during the Jamaica Police Federation conference at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, St Ann yesterday.

“As soon as the logistics are examined I promise you this wall will be erected so that the country can honour these brave men and women each year,” Nelson said.

He said he believed that cops killed in the line of duty should be given a national honour for gallantry.

Nelson also asked the cops to remain resolute in their fight against crime.

“You must never relent in your quest to bring criminals to justice. Attacks on your person must be met firmly within the ambit of the law. You must not cower or retreat but remain alert as you go about your daily activities,” he said.
