Warmington apologises to Christie

Thursday, August 19, 2010

EVERALD Warmington, the member for Parliament for South West St Catherine, has apologised to Contractor General Greg Christie for comments he made after Christie announced that his office had initiated a probe involving possible impropriety involving a construction company in which the MP was a former director.

Christie initiated the investigation following allegations of impropriety and/or irregularity in the award of certain contracts to Strathairn Construction Company Limited by the St Catherine Parish Council.

In an apparent fit of anger on Monday, Warmington unleashed a verbal assault on Christie, but a day after in a statement, the MP said he regretted the comments and withdrew them.

Christie said his decision was based on sworn, written and tape-recorded statements pursuant to Section 29 (a) of the Contractor General Act, which allege that the award of certain works contracts which were issued by the St Catherine Parish Council for performance in the St Catherine South Western Constituency were influenced by a Mr Clifford Everald Errol Warmington, the member of Parliament for the constituency.

The contracts were awarded to Strathairn Construction Company Limited -- a company in which Warmington was a director up to September 1, 2007.

"Strathairn Construction Company Limited was the beneficiary of the majority of the contracts, which had been awarded in the St Catherine South Western Constituency, along with two or three other companies," the OCG said.

The OCG statement also alleged that Warmington, subsequent to resigning from his post as a director in the company, added the names of his sister and brother to the particulars of the company's documents.

Warmington is rude and out of order and should be kicked out of the House. That is the reason why the country is going down. To have someone like that in the people's house, it an embarrassment to Jamaica. Once you say something you cannot take it back. You are a disgrace and I hope the people are watching and do not vote for you the next time.

Warmngton has no behavior and as such he should resign. He is always in conflict with something.

The next thing this crass, boorish person should do is resign as a Minister of State, pending the outcome of the CG's investigation. The common, the crass and the crude, seems to be all the qualification one needs these days to be an MP. This tells its own tale as to why the country is so lacking in civility. This MP's initial outburst is an indication of the violence just lying beneath the surface, barely concealed by the jacket and tie. The apology I take with a grain of salt.

Just apologise and move on. Follow the leader. You don't have to resign.

Mr Speaker, will you please register Everald in anger management classes? If he scores less the 99% send him to detention for one month with 1000 lines, thus:
"I must think before I talk rubbish"
