ALL weapons training activities at the Police Academy have been suspended as investigations into the killing of one officer and the injuring of five others during training last night are carried out.

Additionally, the Tactical Training Village and the range at the academy will be closed as investigators probe whether proper protocol and standard operating procedures at the academy were observed, Police Commissioner Owen Ellington said in a statement today.

The Independent Commission of Investigations is looking into the incident which saw the six, attached to the Mobile Reserve Division, being shot during a training exercise at the academy’s Twickenham Park location.

An internal investigation by the constabulary’s inspectorate has also been ordered by Ellington.

Meanwhile, Ellington is urging officers to remain calm and exercise discipline when caring for and using weapons on and off duty.
