RESIDENTS of Westland, located in Prospect land settlement in Port Antonio, are seeking help to have the footpath to the community restored.

The path, which caters to just over 150 persons, started to deteriorate after heavy rains battered the area on October 7. Hurricane Sandy which made landfall on October 24 did further damage, as did rainfall on November 3.

As a result, the banks of the East Town river near to Jump Off were eroded. Residents have since installed a makeshift board bridge dug into the gully bank so that persons can have access to the community.

And "a 'good Samaritan' has provided light to the broken away area as it is very dangerous to use", according to Gifford Smith.

"We are asking the authorities to act quickly and do something," he pleaded.

Community members say Member of Parliament Dr Lynvale Broomfield as well as representatives from the National Works Agency
has subsequently visited the area.
