Where there's smoke...

A National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) truck is being driven towards the Riverton City Landfill in St Andrew yesterday, as smoke from a fire which the garbage company said was started on Monday plumes from the dump. However, the NSWMA could not say how the fire started.
By late yesterday, a combined team from the NSWMA, Jamaica Fire Brigade, Jamaica Defence Force, Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, and private contractors managed to extinguish the blaze.
"The fire so far has been brought under control and efforts are now being made to address the smoke emission," said Rupert Pryce, executive director of the NSWMA.
The effects of the smoke were felt by residents in communities as far as Red Hills, in upper St Andrew. Yesterday, Pryce apologised to the affected persons.
