Woman cop arrested
Monday, February 13, 2012
A woman detective corporal from the St James Police Division was arrested this afternoon by members of the Anti-Corruption Branch.
The cop was arrested on reasonable suspicion of perverting the course of justice and uttering false documents.
A case file will be submitted later today to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a ruling.
The arrest of the detective corporal follows a directive issued last week from the commissioner of police to review all cases where Detective Sergeant Michael Sirjue was the investigator or a part of the investigating team. This directive is to ensure the integrity of future cases.
Sirjue was charged on February 2 for perverting the course of justice and uttering false documents.
The charges point to the fabrication of evidence by Sirjue which unfairly implicated accused persons in a case before the Home Circuit Court.
The constabulary will work closely with the DPP to safeguard the investigative process and to maintain utmost honesty and professionalism in all investigation, the police said.
