SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — The St Elizabeth police say they have taken two men into custody in relation to the murder of a 24-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man last weekend.

"We are making progress and expect to be able to press charges soon," a senior investigator told the Observer.

Early Sunday, the body of 61-year-old Leroy Lee of Barton in North West St Elizabeth was found at Lease Land in the community by residents returning from a wake, which Lee had also attended.

Police said the victim's head was bashed in and a large stone believed to be the murder weapon was found nearby.

Hours later the body of Marvia Thomas of Thornton was found close to a waterway in bushes at Luana, close to Black River in the parish's south west region. Police said Thomas's body had multiple stab wounds.

There were tyre tracks leading to and from the body. Investigators believe that Thomas was killed elsewhere.
