A police corporal and an 18-year-old man have been arrested following the seizure of an AK-47 rifle, with fifteen 7.62 rounds of ammunition, and a Taurus 9mm pistol containing 15 9mm rounds, Tuesday evening.

The weapons were seized when officers from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Division (C-TOC) carried out a “snap operation” at Myers Lane in Newlands, Portmore, St Catherine.

Police believe the weapons were destined for members of a gang that operates in the tough Newlands community.
