Costa Ricans, 7 others nabbed packaging ganja in Westmoreland

FOUR Costa Ricans are among 11 people who were on arrested Tuesday after they were allegedly caught compressing ganja at a shed in Sweet River district, Westmoreland, the police say.

The police have not released the names of those now in custody, but said approximately 1,000 pounds of ganja and two motor cars were also seized in the operation.

A release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force's communication arm, Corporate Communications Unit, said yesterday that lawmen were on operation in the community about 11:00 am when they discovered a makeshift shed in bushes. The release said the 11 individuals, which included a woman, were in the process of compressing and packaging the ganja.

The group was arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act, the police said.

According to the release, the ganja has an estimated street value of $4 million.
