Digicel 'Data Doctors' back on call

Telecoms giant Digicel yesterday announced that it is reintroducing its crack team of 'Data Doctors' to help mobile customers get the most out of their data.

According to the company, the 'Data Doctors' will come with “loads of convenient ways for customers to get all the help they need to ensure they can surf, stream and share to their heart's content”.

The decision, Digicel explained, was based entirely on customer feedback and calls for simplified offerings, transparent charging and ways to prevent unwanted data usage.

“Digicel customers can now dial 101 toll-free to reach a Data Doctor and can get help with understanding the features of their smartphone or Internet-enabled device; getting the right settings for their device to operate at peak performance while using data; or, to select the best mobile data plan that suits their lifestyle and budget,” the company said in a news release, adding that the line is exclusively for data matters and will operate from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily.

“We made a commitment to listen. We made a commitment to change. Our dynamic team of tech-savvy Data Doctors know the ins and outs of smartphones and how mobile data works, so our customers can feel confident that they will get all the help they need with even the most complex issues, always with a friendly greeting [and] a warm conversation,” the release quoted Digicel Jamaica CEO Justin Morin as saying.

The Data Doctors, the company added, will also be at special 'Data Zone' kiosks at major Digicel stores across the country to help customers.

“Customers are welcome to drop by the Data Zone for quick tutorials on setting up their new or existing smartphone and leave with confidence, knowing that they're fully in control of their data experience. The Data Zone will feature “how to” videos that will also be available 24/7 online and via Digicel's social media pages,” the company stated.

Over the next few weeks, the Data Doctors will be on the road with the Destination Data tour, helping customers at the mobile Data Zone at stops in major towns.

The company said that in order to support the new team of Data Doctors, it has made several major changes to simplify the way it offers and charges for services — especially data — so that customers can now be sure how much they're spending and on what.

Digicel also said it has:

• removed automatic coverages so that customers are always asked before being charged for out-of-bundle data;

• introduced Unlimited Rollover data so that customers get to keep and use what they've paid for;

• improved the My Digicel app so that users can easily track their usage and manage their account; and

• reduced the out-of-bundle data rate by 60 per cent, from $50 to $20 per MB.

“In today's world it's all about data, and everyone at Digicel is very excited about paving the way for every Jamaican to get the support they need in order to stay connected and thrive in the digital world,” Morin said.
