There were anxious moments in the city of Montego Bay yesterday as heavy rains caused severe flooding, resulting in some businesses closing early and bringing traffic to a halt in some sections of the western city as rushing water made movements almost impossible. Up to late last night the main thoroughfare from Barnett Street to Adelphi was impassable and several motor vehicles had been displaced by flood waters.

A work crew from the National Works Agency (NWA) was deployed to clear the road and Prime Minister Andrew Holness will today lead a team on a tour of the affected areas. In the meantime, the prime minister is to receive a preliminary report from the NWA on the impact of the flooding. (Photos: Aceion Cunningham)
