THE police say they have launched a “major investigation” into a robbery in which 15 people, including 13 Chinese nationals, were robbed of valuables at gunpoint.

A release from the constabulary's Corporate Communications Unit said yesterday that the 15 people were in a meeting at Paddington Terrace, Kingston 6 on Tuesday when they were robbed.

Reports from the police are that about 9:00 pm, the men were at the meeting when five armed men entered the premises and robbed them of: 21 cellphones reportedly valued at $1,109,400; seven laptops said to be valued at $483,750; and cash — US$5,400, J$177,700 and CNY$5,180.

The police yesterday issued an appeal to anyone with information who can assist their probe to call 119 or contact the nearest police station.
