This youngster, a student of the Alpha Boys School, is in a pensive mood as he holds a funeral programme for Sister Mary Ignatius Davies, at the service of thanksgiving at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Kingston.
The Roman Catholic nun, who ran the Alpha orphanage for boys and served as a mentor to several influential Jamaican musicians, died on February 9. She was 81.
The late trombonist Don Drummond and saxophonist Tommy McCook, both orphans at the home, went on to form The Skatalites in 1964. Singer Leroy Smart also came out of the orphanage.
