OLD HARBOUR, St Catherine -- The Old Harbour Police in St Catherine are now searching for an assistant bailiff who has been accused of conspiring with Special District Constable Winston Hanson and Conroy Denham, 30, to fleece a businessman of thousands of dollars.

A police source told the Observer that the man being sought was employed to the St Catherine Bailiff Office in Spanish Town.

According to the police, on February 14 the assistant bailiff reportedly sent Denham and the 44-year-old special district constable to collect $150,000 from the businessman in Old Harbour. It is also alleged that the assistant bailiff had collected $30,000 from the same businessman nearly a year before.

The allegations are that the assistant bailiff went to the businessman after he came in possession of a Writ Of Seizure, which was made out against the businessman in the Supreme Court over four years ago. According to a police source, the assistant bailiff came into possession of the writ after an attorney asked him to take it to the St Catherine Bailiff Office to have it registered.

When the matter came up for mention in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate Court last Thursday, special district constable Hanson, who worked at the Spanish Town Infirmary, was offered bail in the sum of $80,000 while Denham was remanded.

Presiding magistrate, Lorna Gayle then questioned the investigating officer as to whether the assistant bailiff had been arrested. After the court was informed that the man had not been arrested, the clerk of courts then revealed that he was seen transacting business at the Spanish Town Courts Office on Wednesday.

The RM then told the court that appropriate action would be taken against the person/s in the courts office as they must know that the assistant bailiff is being sought by the police in connection with the conspiracy case.
