JULIAN Brown, a 19 year-old resident of an affluent Upper St Andrew neighbourhood who reportedly threatened to take his life a year ago, is believed to have committed suicide on Tuesday.
The teenager, who lived with his parents in Bridgemount, reportedly hung himself with a piece of cloth that was tied to a door in his bedroom.
The Constant Spring police, who are investigating, say Brown has been suffering from bouts of depression for some time. The young boy reportedly ran away a few months ago, but was taken back home by a group of friends who found him in the Half-Way-Tree area.
Despite his earlier threats of taking his life, his death came as a shock as on Monday he reportedly boasted to friends about the salary he was receiving from a new job at the Transport Authority.
"Him make the pressure get to him. Him was a nice youth and me can't understand why he would do such a thing as his life was not the worst," one neighbour told the Observer Tuesday.
The teenager was last seen at about 10 o'clock Monday night.
"It is something no one can come to grips with. No one can say why he would do such a thing," said a family friend who grieved at the scene while others solemnly gathered across the street from the house.
The Constabulary Communications Network, the police's information arm, reported that at about 7:00 am Tuesday, Brown's family members went to his room to call him but did not get a response. They reportedly forced a window open and saw the boy's body hanging from the door. The police were called and his body was removed to the morgue.
