Water company says it's back to 93 per cent of capacity
Observer Reporter
Saturday, October 02, 2004

THE National Water Commission (NWC) says all its major water systems are now back in operation and that its production is back to approximately 93 per cent of its capacity.

The company's water systems took a battering from Hurricane Ivan three weeks ago, while the absence of electricity prevented the commission from returning some of its systems to service.

However, the NWC said yesterday that water has now been restored to most large townships and major population centres, while work continues to get the remaining small facilities, mainly in rural or badly damaged areas, back into operation in the shortest possible time.

"The National Water Commission now has 373 water supply systems back in operation, but these include its largest and most critical facilities accounting for a large part of the commission's daily production volumes," said the NWC in a press statement.

It added that most of the remaining 87 water supply systems still out of operation produce less than 0.5 million gallons of water per day and serve limited areas.
