A male Air Jamaica flight attendant was found dead in a room at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, yesterday morning. Police say Wayne Brown, 23, was found in a room at the hotel by cleaning staff. Brown's body had about 10 stab wounds and his hands and feet were bound.
Yesterday, Eldon Bremmer, general manager at the Jamaica Pegasus, confirmed the incident. "He registered yesterday and received two guests," Bremmer said.
Only persons in possession of the hotel's security-coded key can gain access to floors which house guest rooms and Bremmer said there were no signs of forced entry in the room where Brown was killed.
"You can't get access to the bedroom floors without a swipe key," Bremmer said.
The Half-Way-Tree police are investigating the incident. Brown, a former public relations assistant at Sandals Montego Bay, lived in Farm Heights, St James. In 2002 he was the recipient of the Prime Minister's Youth Award for excellence in the performing arts.
He attended the Herbert Morrison Technical High School and completed his first degree in hospitality and tourism at the Florida International University and was one semester away from the completion of his masters degree in the same discipline.
In a statement to the press, Air Jamaica said Brown was not among the 100 flight attendants whose jobs were this week made redundant.
At the same time, the airline called for the police to 'weed out his killers to justice'.
"The police have our full support in their investigations and we ask that no stone be left unturned until the person or persons responsible are found and brought to justice," the airline said.
