PARIS, France (AP) - More than 100,000 high school students - many demanding the education minister resign - marched in cities across France yesterday to protest against government plans to cut teaching staff and reduce the number of year-end exams at public schools.
Education Minister Francois Fillon, admittedly worried about the new pressure, delayed by two months a deadline he set for an advisory panel of parents and students to recommend reforms.
"The government is open to dialogue with youth," he said at a weekly question-and-answer session in parliament, acknowledging that more time was needed for negotiations.
