STUTTGART, Germany (AP) - A man wielding a samurai sword stormed into a Protestant church Sunday and killed one person in an attack that also left three others seriously injured in southern Germany, police said.

Members of the local Tamil community had been holding a service, when the 25-year-old man attacked at the church in Stuttgart, police spokesman Hermann Karpf said.

"The suspected perpetrator was arrested," Karpf said. "He is believed to be a Tamil, and the service was also a Tamil service."

The suspect was apparently motivated by "family" issues, said a police officer at the scene who would not give his name.

The man stormed into the church just before 4:00 pm (1400GMT) wildly waving a sword, according to witness reports from some of the 65 people who were present, police spokeswoman Sybille Ahlborn said.

One man was killed in the attack, and two men and a woman were injured. Police called to the scene subdued the man with pepper spray before arresting him.

Tamils are a predominantly Hindu minority in Sri Lanka and southern India.
