QUITO, Ecuador (AP) - Brazil's offer to grant asylum to Ecuador's deposed President Lucio Gutierrez sparked outrage yesterday among many Ecuadoreans who expressed anger that he could escape into exile without being held accountable for alleged abuse of power.
Gutierrez, who was fired by Congress on Wednesday after a week of street protests against him, was waiting at the Brazilian Embassy for a flight to Brazil, said Brazilian Ambassador Sergio Florencia.
