NATION. won the respect of his peers and readers

A thanksgiving service for the life of veteran journalist Fitzroy Nation will be held on Saturday, June 11 at 1:00 pm at the Assemblies of God Church in Delveland, Westmorland.

Nation, 51, died from liver cancer on June 1 in Almere, The Netherlands.

At the time of his passing Nation was an independent writer and freelancer with several Dutch and English publications.

During his years in Jamaica, Nation worked at The Gleaner, The Jamaica Daily News and Inter-Press Service, which he served as the Jamaican and Caribbean editor before being transferred in 1990 to Portugal in a promotion to the deputy director of the news agency's world desk.

Shortly after, he was posted to the IPS headquarters in Amsterdam as part of a consolidation and reorganisation at the agency.

Nation won the respect of his peers and readers for his deep insight into third world developmental issues, and for the deftness and consummate clarity which became hallmarks of his craft.
