MANCHIONEAL, Portland - The Manchioneal police seized a home-made shotgun and eight rounds of ammunition in this town on Thursday.

Machel Beckford, a 27 year-old labourer of Belle Castle, was subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

This is the third gun to be taken off the street by the police in Portland since the start of the year.

"The police, acting on information, went to Scott Run district in the Manchioneal area about 6:15 pm when they saw Beckford hiding behind a shop and dropped a plastic bag that he was holding in his hands," said Constable Everton Harris.

He said the bag was searched and a home-made shotgun and eight live rounds of 12-gauge cartridges were found.
Beckford is booked to appear in the Port Antonio Resident Magistrate's Court next Tuesday to answer to the charges.

Beckford, the police said, was also wanted on a warrant for wounding with intent, allegedly committed against his father-in-law in the same district.
