BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) - Police in Northern Ireland said rioters threw gasoline bombs and set cars on fire yesterday in violence believed linked to a feud between Protestant groups.
Belfast police said the events in north Belfast started at 5:30 p.m (1630 GMT) when the rioters, believed to be members of an outlawed Protestant group, hijacked three cars and a truck and set them on fire. They also threw gas bombs. There was no immediate word on casualties.
The riots were believed to be linked to an ongoing feud between the Ulster Volunteer Force and the Loyalist Volunteer Force, a rival gang that is encroaching on traditional UVF turf in Belfast. The feud has claimed three victims so far this month.
