THE Adventist Development Relief Agency Jamaica (ADRA-Jamaica) yesterday handed over pharmaceutical supplies valued about US$1.2 million (about J$75M) to the Ministry of Health.
The donations, which came in three shipments, one by airlift and two by sea freight, include ampicillin, ferrous sulphate, ibuprofen, multivitamins syrup, oral rehydration salts, paracetamol, tetracycline, vitamin A, amoxicillin and a wide range of anti-biotics.
The donations, which will boost the stock of much-needed pharmaceutical drugs at the island's public health institutions, came about as a result of a needs list generated by various health institutions in Jamaica, following the passage of Hurricane Ivan last September. When the lists were collated, ADRA-Jamaica wrote proposals to their international partners, AmeriCares and ADRA International, seeking assistance for the island's health sector.
Since Hurricane Ivan, ADRA has been among several organisations which began immediate collaboration with government agencies and NGOs locally and abroad, to bring relief and comfort to those who suffered.
Yesterday, Director of ADRA-Jamaica Pastor Claude Brown said the organisation would continue to play its part in ensuring that those who have suffered during our recent disasters, will bring their lives back to normality".
