EDUVENTURES Jamaica (EJ) yesterday announced plans for its first international education fair to open in two weeks, saying 30 universities and colleges will participate in the three-day event.
Targeted at high school students and others hunting colleges abroad, the fair will offer advisors on college admission, grants/financial aid, and scholarships.
The participating universities are from Jamaica, Canada, the United Kingdom, Venezuela and the United States.
Eduventure said at a press conference in Kingston that the event is being supported by the British, Venezuelan and the Canadian missions, whose representatives will address visa requirements at the fair.
Madai Hernandez, deputy counsellor of the Venzuelan Embassy in Kingston, said at the launch that her country has a tradition of higher education in 150 universities and emphasised that students interested in pursuing studies in the South American country would need to have a good grasp of Spanish to be eligible for the programmes on offer.
The fair will be held both in Kingston, on October 4-5 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in new Kingston; and in Montego Bay, October 7, at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort.
At both venues, the fair begins at 9:00 am and ends 7:00 pm. Admission is $50 for students in uniform, others pay $100
