A new cruise ship that had its maiden voyage just four months ago, made its inaugural journey to Ocho Rios Thursday, bringing a near 2,400 passengers and 1,150 crew.
The Norwegian Jewel, piloted by captain Constantinos Fafalios, is operated by NCL Corporation out of Miami, Florida, and is sister to the Norwegian Star and the Norwegian Dawn.
The Norwegian Jewel's visit marked the start of winter cruise season for ship, which will be offering seven-day cruises to the eastern and western Caribbean over the winter, with fortnightly calls on Ocho Rios.
During the summer the ship will sail the Mediterranean, visiting such places as Egypt and the Greek Isles.
At the end of September, Jamaica had recorded 812,000 cruise ship arrivals, which, according to Robert Stephens, senior vice-president in charge of business development at the Port Authority of Jamaica, was on target for 1.1 million cruise visitors projected this year.
