THE Bluefields People's Community Association (BPCA) has secured three scholarships valued at $150,000 from the Caribbean Institute of Technology, for enrollees in its locally-run information technology programme.

Local resident Petual Porter was the first scholarship recipient.
The Westmoreland based BPCA started its IT programme over 18 months ago, seeded by grant funding from the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica, the United Nations Development Programme, and software giant Microsoft.

With the funding, the project procured some 20 computers and associated equipment for a systematic programme of training for a targeted 400 students, said a JIS release.

Four stolen computers and equipment have been replaced, said project chairman Keith Wedderburn, by Sandals Whitehouse in collaboration with Carlson Marketing Group in Canada, who donated five computers and accessories to the project.
