SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth - Cow thieves struck hard yesterday morning, stealing 18 animals from a single livestock owner at his cattle pen in Fullerswood.

Police said the cattle owner, Errol Stewart, was in bed in Watchwell when he got a call shortly before 2:00 am from a resident of Fullerswood, about six miles away, that there was suspicious activity in the vicinity of his cattle.

Checks later revealed that 18 cows including bulls, calves and heifers were missing. The stolen cattle which carried the brand ES is valued at $800,000.

A large truck was reported to be in the area at the time of the theft. The Black River Police are investigating the incident.
