Man run over with motor car, shot, escapes
BY TANEISHA LEWIS Observer staff reporter
Monday, January 22, 2007

A man who was run over with a motor car and shot by attackers who cornered him on Maxfield Avenue in Kingston, managed to escape early yesterday morning.

However, Inspector Webster Fancis of the Half-Way-Tree Police Station told the Observer that the police were not sure if the man, who had not been identified, was still alive because he had not turned up at any of the city's hospitals or police stations.
"We need to speak with him to find out what happened because if he was the target of the attack, we need to speak with him," said the police inspector.

According to Inspector Francis, at approximately 10:15 am the unidentified man was standing along Maxfield Avenue, in the vicinity of the Transport Authority, when a Nissan motor car drove up to him and the occupants opened fire. He said the man ran and the men drove him down and ran him over with the vehicle.

The injured man, however, got up and ran onto the nearby Kings Avenue where the gunmen continued to shoot at him. He ran back onto Maxfield Avenue and then made his escape on Kew Road.
"Up to this point in time, he has not turned up anywhere," Inspector Francis told the Observer. "He may be wanted by the police, but we can't confirm that at this time," he said.

An eyewitness said the man, who lived in the Maxfield Avenue area and worked as a mechanic, was buying cigarettes from a vendor along Maxfield Avenue when the incident occurred.

"Me only see the car drive up and the man dem start shoot after him," said the eyewitness. "Them run him down with the car and lick him down and back up over him again, but him never dead."
The witness said the man received gunshot wounds to the hand and the leg.

It appeared he escaped half-naked as a pair of blue boxer shorts was seen crumpled in the middle of the road along with a pair of blue jeans, torn at the buttocks and the knees, and a pair of black sneakers.
