Police kill chauffeur for notorious St James gang

Saturday, February 10, 2007

MONTEGO BAY, St James - Kadian Chin, who was said to be a member and the chauffeur for the notorious Stone Crusher gang based at Norwood in this parish, was yesterday shot and killed by police in an alleged shoot-out in the Porto Bello area.

The 24-year-old Chin, the police said, was seen driving a champagne Toyota Corolla motor car, with three men aboard, in the Porto Bello area when he was signalled to stop.

".Instead the occupants opened fire. The police returned the fire and Chin was later found with gunshot wounds," said Superintendent John Morris, the officer in charge of operation for the Police Area One.

Chin, Morris told the Observer, was taken to the nearby Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The other occupants of the vehicle, he said, escaped leaving the car behind.

Morris said the gangsters had earlier shot and killed Andrew Scott, a resident of Glendevon in the parish.

According to Morris, the Toyota motor car in which the men were travelling had figured in several murders committed in the parish over the past few months.

The notorious Stone Crusher gang has been linked to several murders and other crimes committed in St James.
The gang, according to the police, operates mainly in the communities of Glendevon, Norwood, Bottom Pen, Quarry and Salt Spring.
