Bioethicists from across the region will gather at the Wyndham Rose Hall Hotel, Montego Bay today (Saturday) for discussions under the theme "Bioethics for the Caribbean" which usually stimulate controversy on matters such as abortion, cloning, stem cell research, human sexuality, medical misconduct and the like.
The Bioethics Society of the English-Speaking Caribbean is headed by Jamaican consultant bioethicist and family physician, Dr Derrick Aarons who is credited with its formation two years ago.
Presenters at the conference will include: Professor Daniel Piedra Herrera, executive secretary of the Cuban National Bioethics Committee; Dr Kenneth Goodman, director of the Bioethics Programme, University of Miami, Florida; Professor Cheryl Macpherson - professor of Bioethics, St George's University, Grenada and Dr Eileen Boxill.
