THE guns yesterday barked again in Mountain View, injuring two men, a day after a symbolic peace walk through sections of the politically-divided South East St Andrew community by the Herro Blair-led Peace Management Initiative.

The men who were said to be supporters of the People's National Party (PNP) and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), respectively, were admitted to hospital.

According to sources, in the first incident a man was shot twice when he climbed a tree at Saunders Avenue, a community known for its staunch support for the ruling PNP. He fell out of the tree and was taken to hospital.

Shortly after gunshots rang out at the nearby 55 Mountain View Avenue, known for its loyalty to the JLP. The man was injured in the leg.

Mountain View had for almost two years been relatively peaceful after community policing initiatives and social intervention programmes were introduced.

However, as campaigning for the August 27 general election draws nearer, old political rivalry has turned violent. Two people were also shot and injured in the community on Tuesday.

Yesterday, the police promised to maintain a strong presence in the community, hopefully to prevent any further violence.
