C&WJ fixed line rates inch up Aug 31

Friday, July 27, 2007

CABLE & Wireless Jamaica's (C&WJ) post- and pre-paid landline customers will pay more for their fixed line services, effective August 31.

The new rates for post-paid customers during peak times - Monday to Friday between 6:00 am and 5:59 pm - will be $0.99 per minute, up from the present $0.90. During off-peak times - Monday to Friday between 6:00 pm and 5:59 am, and between 12:01 am on Saturday and 5:59 am on Monday - post-paid customers will pay $0.65 per minute, $0.05 more than the current rate.

Pre-paid customers will pay $0.10 more during peak times, taking their rates from $1.25 to $1.35 per minute. Off-peak, these customers will pay an additional $0.06 per minute as rates will move from $0.99 to $1.05.
Repeated attempts yesterday to get comments on the rate hike from C&WJ were futile.

The last time C&WJ increased fixed line rates was in October 2005 when the company introduced the single national rate, which eliminated the existence of separate rates for inter and intra parish calls.
