No reason given for sudden resignation of BSJ head

Friday, May 30, 2008

RHONE. declined to comment on departure

CAMELLA Rhone has resigned as executive director of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ), a position that she held since January 2007.

It remained unclear, however, why Rhone decided to leave the BSJ, where she previously worked between 1984 and 1989; and in 2001 as a member of the Standards Council.

Contacted by the Observer, the BSJ responded in a statement that Rhone had left by 'mutual consent' but would not give a reason. Rhone herself declined to comment.

The BSJ's manager of metrology and testing, James Kerr, has been appointed acting executive director.

Prior to assuming the top job at the Bureau, Rhone headed the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality.
