NWC says problems affecting Portmore, Kingston corrected

Thursday, July 03, 2008

THE National Water Commission (NWC) says it has corrected problems which had caused low water pressure earlier this week in sections of Portmore, St Catherine and Kingston.

"The water supply system is now being recharged and water is being distributed throughout the network. While the system is being recharged, the NWC continues to truck water as much as is possible with critical institutions, such as clinics, as the first priority," the NWC said in a press release yesterday.

The problems, the commisison said, began on Monday night when the source facilities at Bybrook in St Catherine failed to start. That problem, it added, was compounded by an 'emergency break' in the distribution pipeline in the Bog Walk Gorge, which was repaired yesterday.

"The problem was even further compounded by recurring problems at the Bybrook system, and the fact that sections of the Tulloch Spring system - which would otherwise be able to make up for the unavailability of water from the Bybrook system, are presently being upgraded under the KMA (Kingston Metropolitan Area) Water Supply Rehabilitation project," the NWC said.
