G2K launches St Thomas chapter
Announces plans for community centre and garbage disposal project for parish

GENERATION 2000 (G2K), the young professional arm of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), has announced a list of initiatives for the parish of St Thomas, among them plans to establish a $15 million community centre and a garbage disposal project.

The disclosure was made at the recent launch of the group's St Thomas chapter. This was held at the Village Green Conference Room in the parish. The chapter is the fifth to be launched by the group since the start of the year.

Chairman of the chapter, Horace Wynter, said the plans for the garbage disposal project will see the G2K group working alongside the National Solid Waste Management Authority and a major corporate partner to place a number of garbage bins at strategic locations across the parish.

"We hope this will help in curbing the disturbing culture of littering that we are witnessing, and we are hoping that better waste management practices will be adopted," Wynter said.
As for the community centre, member of parliament and deputy leader of the JLP, James Robertson used the occasion to announce plans for a $15-million community centre for the Yallahs community.

He said there were also plans for a massive educational programme that will feature grants, aid and scholarships for students in the parish at all levels.

Robertson, who is also a founding member of G2K, did not go into detail but said that in coming months the
full workings of the plan would be disclosed.

On the heels of the disclosure, Wynter said that the mentioned developments was an indication of how the G2K was positioning itself to actively help in facilitating the growth and development that was eluding the parish of St Thomas for some time.
