Main Street in Santa Cruz to be closed weekend

Friday, May 22, 2009

MAIN Street in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth will be closed over the Labour Day weekend between Sunday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 26 to facilitate drain-cleaning activities, the National Works Agency (NWA) advised yesterday.

"This project forms part of the NWA's 2009/10 flood damage mitigation programme in preparation for the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season," the agency said.

The alternative route for motorists travelling from the direction of Black River towards Mandeville is the Santa Cruz Bypass. The reverse obtains for motorists travelling from the direction of Mandeville towards Black River.

The NWA also advised that the section of the Junction Road in Friendship Gap, St Mary will be closed this Sunday between 5:00 am and 12:00 noon.

The closure is to facilitate the laying of culvert pipes across the roadway.

The NWA said motorists travelling towards eastern Portland should use the alternative route which is via Harbour View, Morant Bay onto Hectors River. Those motorists travelling towards Annotto Bay or Port Maria should travel through Grande Hole, Scott's Hall, Ireland, Rock River, Richmond onto Highgate. Motorists may then travel from Highgate towards Port Maria or Annotto Bay.
