Retired teachers honoured for contribution to Christian education
Wednesday, July 01, 2009
SIX retired educators who dedicated over 30 years of service to Christian education, were awarded Sunday for their remarkable contribution to education.
The awardees were Juliet Scott, Linda Maragh, Pearlisa Scott, Rudyard Ellis, Rose Ryan and Vilma Ferguson who taught in Seventh-day Adventist-owned schools.
They were honoured at the President's Banquet for Education, a fund-raising venture for Christian education hosted by the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and Adventist Laymen's Services and Industries and the Adventists' East Jamaica Chapter held at the Pegasus Hotel. The awards were held under the patronage of Governor General Sir Patrick Allen and Lady Allen.
Allen congratulated and lauded the awardees for their valuable contribution to Christian education.
"Throughout your career you were consistent and I must thank you and commend you for your stalwart contribution," he said.
President of the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Pastor Adrian Cotterell, also commended the awardees and appealed for all to support Christian education, which he said fostered the harmonious development of the physical, mental and spiritual powers.
"Christian education has help to shape good values and attitudes and it is one of the cures to correct the ills of this country that has become a nightmare," he said.
